Jomolhari Trek

Jhomolhari Trek – is one of the most popular treks that starts from Paro. A short ride to Drugyal Dzong is followed by a short downhill walk along a wide trail. On the very first day itself one can enjoy majestic views of the 7, 314 meter high Mt. Jhomolhari. The first three days of the trek are spent in the Paro Chu valley, passing through paddy fields, and forests of blue pines and apple orchards. The army base at Gunitsawa in the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Park is the last stop before one enters Tibet. From there on, the trail passes through forests of Oak and fern, crossing several streams. En route there is an old invasion and trade route to Phari Dzong in Tibet. On the fourth day one reaches Jangothang. There is a just as spectacular view of the Mrt. Jhomolhari from Jangothang as well. Nearby is the high altitude Tshophu lake. On the fifth day of the trek, one reaches Lingzhi, camping at 4, 010 meters. A days excursion from here takes one to the beautiful lake of Tsherim Khang. On the ninth day one reaches Thimphu.
